Vice President
Michael W. Redding, Ed.D.
Dr. Michael W. Redding has served as a senior administrator at the university in multiple roles since 2000, including Vice President of University Advancement, which encompassed the University’s development program, alumni relations, the university’s art museum and public and government affairs. He currently serves as the Vice President of University Relations. Redding has more than 20 years of experience in public affairs and public administration and has worked in higher education administration, the private sector and in state and local government. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and received his Masters and Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.
As the senior administrative officer with overall leadership responsibility for the Office of the President and the comprehensive programs within the University Relations department, Redding provides strategic leadership and management for a department of more than 100 employees in the following areas: alumni affairs, communications, marketing, state, federal and community affairs, advertising, the magazine of the University of Oregon, staff within the President’s office, Portland advancement and the university’s radio station. Redding also shares leadership responsibilities with the Senior Vice President and Provost for the University of Oregon Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
A member of the president’s cabinet since 2004, Redding has worked closely with the president and other senior UO leaders on university priorities and goals. He also serves on a variety of leadership committees at the university and within the Oregon University System.
University Relations is made up of Public and Government Affairs, the UO Alumni Association, and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. The unit’s goal is to build support of the university, its programs and initiatives among its various constituents.
